One of my favorite grocery store wine finds recently was the Middle Sister Moscato.  I had a rough week at work and my boyfriend was out of town for the weekend, so I went to the grocery store to buy a bottle of wine and food to eat so I wouldn’t have to leave the house all weekend.

As I was wondering the wine aisle, this particular bottle stood out to me. I was initially drawn to the purple metal capsule, but then I noticed the sassy looking stick figure and the name of the wine. After seeing this stick figure and that the wine was called Sweet and Sassy, I thought this is a wine I have to try!

This wine is a sweeter wine, but not too sweet. You can drink it with dessert or while crafting and watching Netflix.  It is one of my go-to Moscatos.  I think it is the perfect amount of sweet.  I can taste peach and slight pears. It smells very floral in addition to the fruit taste.  I have enjoyed this wine with a cookie and also cheese and crackers.  It is also good with spicy foods. I have had it while eating Chipotle take out and it was pretty tasty.

Prophecy Rosé Wine Review

Rosé wine is currently very popular.  This is unbelievable especially since rosé has really only been gaining popularity over the last several years (aka since the early 2000s).  If you Google rosé wine, you will find over 80 million results.  Of these 80 million results, you will find several hundred relating to millennials and their love of rosé wine. Because of this, I was nervous about writing a rosé wine review out of fear that I would be just another millennial writing about a rosé.  But I decided to go ahead and write one because I like a good rosé!

Rose and kniting
Last week I enjoyed a glass of this wine while knitting a baby blanket.

Rosé wines are wines that have a pink or blush color.  These wines get their color from the interaction between the grape skins and the grape juice during winemaking. The skins are typically left in the juice for a couple of days which is just enough time to produce the nice pink color. Rosé wines are typically from the south of France but can be made elsewhere.

Based on my Wikipedia research, rosé wines were some of the first wines to have been produced.  These wines had a resurgence after World War II when two Portuguese winemakers released a sweet rosé to the US and Europe.  These wines were extremely popular for several years, but that popularity faded away like the slow death of the floppy disk.  However, unlike the floppy disk, these wines made a successful comeback.  The comeback was originally only a summertime drink, but it is slowly starting to be a go-to drink all year long.  If you don’t believe me, just check out Buzzfeed and the number of posts related to rosé wine.

The September crochet CraftEaze box wine suggestion was the Prophecy Rosé.  I found this rosé at my local grocery store, but it can also be bought at Target.  This wine can be purchased for $20 or less.  You can use this website to find a location near you: http://www.prophecywines.com/#purchase.

The Prophecy Rosé is a crisp dry wine. I can taste flavors of raspberries and peach.  I enjoy drinking this wine while watching Netflix and working on a craft project.  This wine would be a good wine to serve with dinner or at a brunch. These wine glasses would be perfect to enjoy a glass this wine in.  The gold polka dots will contrast greatly with the light pink color of the wine.  These glasses are also stemless, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the stems off when you are doing dishes.  Speaking from experience, one of the worst things to break in the kitchen is the stem of a wine glass.  Like the part that holds the drink is still perfectly good, but you can’t use it anymore because there is no way to set the glass down or hold the wine glass without getting a cut.

Wine Review – California Roots Moscato

Target Moscato

This month’s wine review is for a Moscato.  I like Moscato wines because they are sweeter and are very tasty as you watch a movie on Netflix.  This month’s wine suggestion with the CraftEaze crochet subscription box is the California Roots Moscato.

The California Roots is a wine brand that is found only at Target.  I have spent a lot of time and money at Target. It has only gotten worse since they added the Hearth and Hand product line. I love watching Fixer Upper and its so much fun going through the Hearth and Hand section.  Joanna Gaines style matches mine pretty well.  I have also been on this organization kick the last few months, so I have been going to Target to find things to help with organizing my house.  I really like their wooden cube storage units with the fabric boxes. It’s an easy way to add a splash of color to my home office.

What is nice about the California Roots wine is that it is only about $5.  The California Roots Moscato has a fruity aroma. I taste peaches and melons as I sip this wine.  I most recently enjoyed this wine after cleaning my living room while binge watching Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix. The bottle has a bear on it, what more can you ask for!

So next time that you are wondering around Target, and let’s be honest that will probably be in the next week or so, pick up a bottle.

Wine Review – Von Wilhelm Haus Riesling Spätlese

So this month’s wine review once again features a Riesling. Like I said last month, I really enjoy Rieslings. This month’s wine suggestion with the CraftEaze crochet subscription box was Von Wilhelm Haus Riesling Spätlese.

So I have been eying this bottle for several months now at the grocery store. I was initially drawn by to the bright blue bottle, but the fact it was a Riesling made me want to try this wine.  I finally broke down and bought a bottle while my boyfriend was out of town on vacation for a wine and craft Friday night. And I have got to say, I was not disappointed.

The Von Wilhelm Haus winery is in Mosel, Germany.  So it is a German Reisling. This wine is a sweeter Riesling, which makes it well suited for dinner and as a sipping wine while relaxing on the couch. When I sip this wine, I taste a slight apple flavor.  This wine would be delicious with a Cajun blackened chicken or shrimp dinner.  The other thing I love about this wine is that it’s very reasonably priced. I bottle the bottle for less the $10 at my local ACME.

This wine bottle will also be great for crafts.  Due to the color, you could insert a string of fairy string lights inside (such as these).  Below is a picture of a wine bottle that I inserted the fairy string lights into. This would be beautiful on a fireplace mantle or on a gift table at a wedding. This is also a super easy gift to make for a friend, family member, or coworker.

Here is an example of a wine bottle were I inserted lights inside.

Wine Review – Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling

Wine Review - Riesling

Some links posted below may be affiliate links which means I’ll earn a tiny commission if you purchase through them.

I am a huge fan of Riesling wine. Riesling wines are made from a Riesling grape.  The Riesling grape is originally from Germany but has since been planted in many other places including Washington, Michigan, and Ontario.

These wine can be paired with many different types of foods. I love to drink a glass of Riesling when eating Pad Thai add a local Thai restaurant that my boyfriend and I love to go to.  I also like to order a glass of Riesling with my parmesan coated chicken breast dinner at ASM meetings (a professional organization that I am a member of).

So I was introduced to this particular Riesling when I was at home for Christmas a few years back.  My dad knows that my mom and I both enjoy Rieslings, and so he is always on the lookout for new Rieslings to try.  He found Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling at their local Walmart.  The three of us (my sister was at her husband’s family Christmas) tried the wine and all like it. It is in the “Family Wine Book” as highly rated.  My mom (who prefers sweeter wines) even enjoyed this wine.

I like to drink this wine with dinner.  I had a glass tonight with my steak and shrimp dinner.  This is a “medium” wine that has peach and pear notes.  A medium wine is between a dry wine and a sweet wine. The winemaker states that this is an “everyday wine”. The reason for calling it an “everyday wine” is that it can easily be pair with many types of food.  This is one of my go-to wines when at a restaurant. I have ordered it a variety of different restaurants including a Thai restaurant and a restaurant that served modern American cuisine.

I have been able to find this wine in a variety of places. I have bought this wine at my local grocery store. I have also bought this wine at Walmart.  I have even seen a bottle at the gas station.  You can find this wine by using this website:  www.ste-michelle.com/find-our-wine. Be sure to select “Columbia Valley Riesling” in the wine option.  One of my favorite things about this wine is that it is a delicious and versatile wine that is fairly inexpensive. Most places have this wine for less than $10.  If you want to order this wine, you can order a bottle at Wine.com.

Cherry Limeade Wine Cocktail

Cherry Limeade

I’m definitely looking forward to this weekend. First, it has been beautiful outside this week, and this weekend is also suppose to be beautiful. Secondly, I’m actually off work all weekend long! I have worked the last couple of weekends, so I’m pretty excited for the chance to sleep in a little.  Finally, it’s Memorial Day weekend! Memorial Day weekend is the best because it’s a 3 day weekend and also the unofficial start of summer.  It is finally time to spend time on the deck or by the pool with a nice cold drink and a good book.

One of my favorite summertime drinks is the cherry limeade.  When I was high school my mom figured out how to make a Sonic cherry limeade lookalike, and we would make them in the afternoon after working in the yard.  The other day when I was on Pinterest, I saw some wine slushie recipes and thought it would be cool to try to make a cherry limeade wine slushie.  I looked and couldn’t really find a recipe for one, so I came up with this recipe.  I used the Barefoot Moscato when I made this recipe because it was like $6. You can use any Moscato wine for this recipe.  This recipe is easy to make and the result is pretty tasty.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of Moscato (I used Barefoot Moscato)
  • 1 can of frozen limeade
  • A little cherry grenadine
  1. Pour the can of frozen limeade into the blender along with the bottle

The drink is colorful and looks tasty!

of Moscato.  If you would like a drink that is closer to a slushie, then you can add ice to the blender.

  2. Blend the frozen limeade and the wine using the slushie button.
  3. After the frozen limeade and the wine are blended together, pour a little of the cherry grenadine in the blender.
  4. Blend the drink for a 2 or 3 short pulses.
  5. Pour the drink into your glass of choice and enjoy!

Winking Owl Moscato – Wine Review

Aldi wine

Here at CraftEaze, we love crafts, Netflix, and wine. So each month our projects contain a wine and Netflix suggestion. Winking Owl Moscato was the May crochet pattern suggestion. You can find Winking Owl Moscato at Aldi. I love shopping at Aldi because they have some unique products and also have some good deals on essential food items like eggs. I remember growing up my mom would buy the pizza kits from Aldi and my sister and I would get to make our very own pizza.

The Winking Owl Moscato is a sweet white wine. The wine has a slight peach flavor. It pairs well with spicy food, cheeses, desserts, or a quiet evening watching Netflix.  This is one of my favorite wines. This is my go-to wine to drink while binge watching Netflix and working on a craft project.  Recently, I had a glass of this wine while working on a baby blanket for a friend.
