Learn To Crochet – Scrubbies and Pot Holders

Some of the best projects to learn how to crochet are pot holders and scrubbies. That is because you can try different stitches without committing to a large project. You can also see the results very quickly since they are small projects. Finally, you can never have enough pot holders and scrubbies. I mean I’m always looking for more pot holders!

For this project, we will make 2 scrubbies and 2 pot holders. Each scrubby and pot holder will use a different stitch. The stitches used for this project include chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc). Single Crochet Pot Holder

Ch 31 with the Sugar’n Cream yarn.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in every ch across, turn (30 sc).

Row 2-30: Ch 1, sc in the first sc and in each sc across, turn (30 sc).

You will use the Sugar’n Cream yarn for this. This is also worked in a diagonal.

Row 1: Ch 6, dc in the 4th chain from hook. Dc in the next two chains, turn.

Row 2: Ch 6, dc in the 4th chain from hook. Dc in the next two chains. Slip stich into the chain 3 turning chain from previous row. Ch 3, dc 3 times in turning chain, turn.

Rows 3-10: Repeat row 2 instructions, but you will do the slip stitch for each turning chain.

Row 11-19: Slip stitch in each dc and into the first chain 3 turning chain from the previous row. Ch 3, dc 3 times in the chain 3 turning chain from the previous row, turn.

Ch 22 with the Scrubby yarn.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd chain from hook , dc in every chain across, turn (20 dc).

Round 2-10: Ch 2, dc blo (back loop only) in each dc, turn (20 dc).

Round 1: Ch 2 with the Scrubby yarn, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2hdc in each sc, join (12 hdc).

Round 3: Ch 1, *2 hdc in first hdc, 1 hdc in next hdc, repeat from * around (18 hdc).

Round 4: Ch 1, *2 dc in first hdc, 1 hc in next 2 hdc, repeat from * around (22 dc).

Round 5:  Ch 1, *2 dc in first dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, repeat from * around (28 dc).
