So I am going to write that stereotypical blog post this year trying to encourage everyone to be the best version of themselves this year. However, my post is going to be a little different. I’m not going to tell you my foolproof method of sticking to your new year’s resolutions (because I for one do not know the secret!). I’m also not going to tell you what to do because to be honest, I find those types of posts annoying. What I am going to do is to encourage you to make 2023 the year you learn how to do something new!
I am a huge proponent of continuous learning in your life. I am always looking for new things to learn. It might be reading a book about a specific topic or learning how to cook a new meal. It might also be taking a class at the library or even using an app like Duolingo. And I know that 2023 will be full of so much learning for me as I become a mom for the first time!
So make 2023 the year you learn something new! Here are some great ways to learn something new. This list contains a variety of different topics that you might find interesting.
Learn How to Crochet
Learn To Crochet Kit Project – Potholders and Dish Scrubbies
Now it wouldn’t be a CraftEaze post if I didn’t try to convince you to learn how to crochet (or pick it up again)! One of the best ways to learn this craft is by finding a beginner-friendly project. I recently made a CraftEaze kit that is perfect to teach you the basics of crocheting. You can find this kit here. The kit contains the patterns, crochet hook, and yarn needed to make 2 potholders and 2 scrubbies. There is also a list of videos that comes with the pattern to help you learn how to do the stitches.
Learn How To Cook
Learn To Cook!
Make 2023 the year that you make more dinners at home compared to going out! There are some great cookbooks that can help you improve your cooking skills. This cookbook contains 100 different recipes that will help you expand your cooking skills. It contains pictures showing you how to do different things. You can even try to document your adventure in cooking by making an Instagram, Tik Tok, or blog.
Learn To Draw
Drawing
Maybe in 2023, you have decided to learn how to draw. Now, I know what you are thinking, but there are some great options for adults to learn how to draw. There are products like this succulent doodling guide that can teach you how to draw items that are not childish.
Learn Lettering/Caligraphy
Lettering
So in the year that shall not be named (2020), I decided to do a daily lettering book for Lent. I was using it as a way to reflect each day and I found a book that was designed for Lent in particular (so it had prayers, bible verses, and saints in it). However, you can find so many books that can teach you how to do hand lettering or calligraphy. I personally think that this book is great because it is spiral bound. The book I used in 2020 was a normal paperback book, so it was sometimes difficult to use especially toward the center.
Learn How To Quilt
Quilting
So I have never really learned how to quilt, but my sister learned a few years back. She mostly learned to make baby blankets for some of her friends who were pregnant at the time. So if you have a sewing machine, 2023 could be the year you learn how to quilt. There are some great kits available on Etsy that can teach you how to quilt. This kit in particular would be a great kit to learn with because it comes with everything that you will need to make a blanket.
Learn Another Language
Learn A New Language
Maybe you are planning a trip in 2023 or maybe you just want to finally learn how to speak or read German, but 2023 is the perfect time to learn! You can use an app like Duolingo. Or you can use a program like Rosetta Stone. Or if you are just looking for a refresher, a book like this would be very helpful.
Other more traditional resolutions
So I know that not everyone will want to make learning their new year’s resolution, but I have a couple of ideas that might be more up your alley.
Organize Your Yarn Stash
So if you are like me, your yarn stash is a disaster! Like you don’t know what yarn you have on hand, what colors you have, or even where it lives in your craft room. I have made a way to document the yarn you have on hand in an easy-to-use format. You can buy the official CraftEaze yarn sash journal as a book or as a digital download that you can print off and place in a binder.
Expand Your Wine Horizons
One thing I am sort of looking forward to this spring is having a glass of wine with dinner after I have my baby. Maybe this year, you want to try some new wines to expand your palate. CraftEaze has created a wine journal that can help you keep track of what wines you like or didn’t like.
Make A Temperature Blanket
One of the most popular projects every January is the temperature blanket. It’s a great way to document how the weather changes over the year. If you want to make a corner-to-corner blanket, check out my post from last year about my 2021 temperature blanket.
Hope you all have a great 2023!!
