It’s that time of year again where everyone is getting ready for Christmas. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by finding gifts for your friends and family members, decorating your house, and planning holiday parties. But it is so important to find a way to remember to do something for yourself during this busy time. One way that you can do this is by having an Advent calendar. My personal favorite as an adult is a wine Advent calendar.
If you are unfamiliar with what an Advent calendar is, let me give a short background. An Advent calendar contains 24 special items, one for each day of the month of December up until Christmas. You can find a wide variety of types of advent calendars for kids and adults. If you are a Harry Potter fan you can find Harry Potter related ones such as this one. If you want a relaxing calendar idea, you can find an adult coloring book Advent calendar like this.
This year I have a wine Advent calendar and a chocolate truffle calendar that I bought from Aldi. My friend and I went to a paint event at a local winery and made a super cute Christmas tree wine Advent calendar decoration. If you want to make your own calendar, you can buy the unfinished wooden frame on Amazon here. You can paint it any way you want using acrylic paint.
We filled our trees up with wines we found at World Market and Giant Eagle. We also found this super cute cocktail mixer 6 pack that was in a package that looks like a beach van. I added these 6 mixers to the calendar on random days. This is my first 7 days of the Advent calendar. I hope you enjoy the list!
Day 1 – Barefoot Moscato
My first wine was the Barefoot Moscato. This is one of my go-to wines when I’m looking for a budget wine. It is sweet and easy to drink. It is also a great wine to use when making wine cocktails such as my cherry limeade wine slushie.
Day 2 – Mistletoe Mojito
On December 2nd, I pulled my first cocktail mixer. This mixer was for a mojito. I mixed it was a shot of a rum made in Coshocton County, Ohio called Killbuck Creek and a little bit of sparkling water. It was very refreshing. I enjoyed this mojito a lot and wish I had more of this mixer.
Day 3 – Villa Jolanda I Love You
My next wine was a sparkling Italian wine. It was slightly dry, but it was kinda fun drinking a glass of sparkling wine on a Tuesday night. Normally, I only have sparkling wines on a fancy occasion such as a wedding or at midnight on New Years Day. I also love the bottle. It was so cute and had a couple in a variety of different activities like riding in a hot air balloon.
Day 4 – Barefoot Pink Moscato
The fourth wine in my Advent calendar was a Barefoot Pink Moscato. This wine was sweet and paired well with the chocolate truffle. I enjoyed drinking this glass while working a Christmas stocking for a craft fair.
Day 5 – Barefoot Reisling
The next wine I pulled from my advent calendar was the Barefoot Reisling. I drank this wine with my chocolate truffle before going to trivia. It was a little drier then the Moscato wines I have had earlier this week, but it was refreshing. The Barefoot Reisling isn’t my favorite Reisling, but it is a decent option if you are in search of a wine that you can eat dinner with.
Day 6 – Bitch Bubbly
Happy Friday! The wine I pulled on December 6 was Bitch Bubbly. This was a sparkling rosé and was the perfect wine to finish the work week with. It was so refreshing and paired great with Netflix! I will probably have to buy this wine again in the future.
Day 7 – Lolea No. 2 White Sangria
The 7th wine in my Advent calendar was the Lolea No. 2 White Sangria. This was actually a wine cocktail in a bottle. It has a cap similar to a beer bottle, so you will need to make sure you have a bottle opener available to drink this wine. The bottle also suggests drinking this wine cold. So I put it in the refrigerator for about an hour and then poured it into a pint glass with ice. And let me tell you that this was so refreshing. I will be looking for this wine again in the future.
