Across the US last night, clocks fell backward as Daylights Saving Time came to an end. In the coming weeks, we will be coming home from work in the dark and wanting to find ways to keep warm. My favorite way to keep warm in the winter is working on a new blanket. This is a list of my 9 favorite blanket crochet patterns. These patterns contain both throw blankets and baby blankets.

5 1/2 Hour Throw

5 1/2 hour throw blanket
My 5 1/2 hour throw blanket that I made several years ago.

This pattern was one of my favorite blanket patterns I have ever made. It went so fast, as the name of the pattern implies. I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn for this project and a Boye Q-19 (15.75 mm) plastic crochet hook. I liked using the homespun yarn for this project because it made the blanket pretty warm. I also loved using this Boye Q-19 hook for this project because the plastic was very smooth and did not catch on the yarn causing snags.

Circular Ripple Blanket

Ripple Circular blanket
The circular ripple blanket that I made a few years ago.

This circular ripple blanket was fun to make. I used it as a chance to clean out my leftover yarn stock, but it could be cute to make with a specific color scheme. One thing I like about this pattern is you can make it as big as you want. It can be a baby blanket or a throw blanket for the couch.

Solar System C2C Blanket

Outer Space Blanket.
This is the outer space blanket I made using this pattern.

This is one of my favorite blanket patterns. I had so much fun making this blanket last year. It has several blocks that were crochet using the corner to corner method. I love how colorful this blanket is and the size. It is a fairly large blanket and could fit on a twin bed (like for your little space enthusiast).

6 Day Kid Blanket

6 day blanket
This is my “6 Days” blanket. It took a few more than 6 days.

This blanket pattern was super fun. I used Bernat Pop! yarn and Sweet Roll yarn for my blanket in a variety of colors. Both of these yarns are a cake-type yarn with large sections of each color. What I like about these two yarns is the fact it makes stripes as you go along. It looks awesome this blanket that uses elements of a granny square and chevron patterns. You can use this pattern to make a kids blanket in approximately 6 days or it can be used to make a bigger blanket. I chose to make a larger blanket, so it took me slightly longer than 6 days.

Loopy Love Blanket

Loopy Love Blanket
A baby blanket I made using this pattern for my mom for a baby shower.

This is another pattern that has instructions for a baby blanket and larger sizes all the way up to a king-size bed. I used this pattern to make a baby blanket a few years back. This pattern worked up really fast even though it uses a baby or sport weight yarn. It uses 3 different colors so you do not have to cut the yarn at the end of each row.

Easy Peasie Blanket

This is a picture from when I worked on this blanket during the winter of 2018. I love Leinenkugel’s Pomegranate Shandy, I can’t wait until it comes back!

This blanket pattern is so easy and is perfect for beginners. I loved working on this blanket because it was very repetitive. It also uses my favorite yarn Bernat Blanket yarn. This yarn is so soft and easy to work with. This pattern and yarn are perfect to make a blanket in the coldest part of winter because you will get nice and toasty while crocheting it.

Granny Square Blanket

CraftEaze’s Granny Square Blanket

This blanket was a project for the CraftEaze monthly crochet subscription box. It is a very easy project that creates a blanket that is essentially a giant granny square. When this project was sent in subscription box it used Lion Brand Homespun yarn. It is the perfect project to do on a snowy Saturday while you binge-watch your favorite Netflix series. You can buy CraftEaze special project box here. Not only will you get all the materials to make this blanket, but you will also get a wine and Netflix suggestion.

Zebra/Tiger Baby Blanket

Tiger Baby Blanket
This is a baby blanket that I made for a friend using this pattern.

This baby blanket pattern is so much fun! I made it for a friend that was having a baby using black and gold for a Missouri Tiger blanket. The photos with the pattern were super cute. I would love to make this pattern using black, white, and pink like the pattern calls out in the future.

Lush Life Blanket

The lush life blanket I made a year or so ago.

This blanket pattern is a little more complicated than some of the patterns listed above but works up so quickly. The pattern calls for two different color yarns that form large stripes, but I just used one color. This blanket is so soft and warm. I love how triple front post stitches make ridges on the blanket. These ridges make the blanket look like it was much more complicated then it was.

I hope you enjoyed reading my list of favorite blanket patterns that are perfect for this winter.
